How To Cast A Casting Director: Tip #2 "Non Union Casting"

Working on a non-union project?  Fear not, dear director or producer, the talent you cast for your non-union project need not look ‘low budget’.

When casting a Casting Director, it can be important to find someone with extensive non-union experience.  Especially in today’s market where more and more projects are going non-union.  If your Casting Director knows where to look, he or she can find a wealth of experienced non-union and SAG (core) actors to help your project pop.

You’ll want to find a CD who understands how to deal with non-union talent negotiations.  He or she should know what day rates and buyouts make for the highest caliber talent.  In some cases, the rates may not even matter.  It may be the quality of the project or exposure for the actor that can be leveraged to get excellent results.  You see friend, when working in the ‘wild west’ that is non-union casting, you want a Casting Director who thinks outside of the standard talent ‘box’.
